Construction activity surges in South Florida in Q1

Construction contract awards increased 39 percent in South Florida during the first quarter, according to Dodge Data & Analytics.

The study found $2.3 billion in construction contracts granted in the tri-county area, up from $1.65 billion in the same quarter a year ago.

Commercial real estate contracts surged 57 percent to $838 million. The bulk of the activity was in the residential sector at $1.46 billion, a 30 percent increase.

Not surprisingly, construction jobs have been in hot demand in the region.
