All Aboard Florida chooses firm to design, build high-tech signal equipment

All Aboard Florida took another step toward starting passenger train service connecting Orlando to Miami by naming a signaling equipment contractor for the 235-mile rail corridor — some of which will be designed and engineered in Melbourne.

Coral Gables-based All Aboard Florida — which will start construction this year on the Orlando to South Florida leg of the $2.5 billion, privately funded intercity train — announced GE Transportation Systems will design and manufacture the signaling equipment for the system, which already is under construction in South Florida.

GE Transportation’s teams in Melbourne and Jacksonville will lead the high-tech signal design and engineering, and a plant in Warrensburg, Mo., will manufacture the equipment, said a news release.
