Contractor hired for expansion of West Palm Beach’s Norton Museum of Art

The Norton Museum of Art hired Gilbane Building Co. to manage its $60 million renovation and expansion plan.

In January, the West Palm Beach-based museum announced that it had raised $34 million towards a $60 million capital campaign with a targeted groundbreaking in 2016. The plan would include a 50,000-square-foot addition of program space, a new 200-seat auditorium, meeting rooms, a new entrance space with 44-foot high ceilings, a restaurant, and another 15,000 square feet for galleries and supporting operations. The museum would also renovate 60,000 square feet of existing space.

“The construction of the museum is highly technical and challenging,” Tim Hensey, VP of Gilbane Building, said in a news release. “The team we have dedicated to this project has exceptional depth of experience in dealing with the complex issues of constructing this facility.”

The museum plans to complete its expansion in 2018. The plan was designed by architecture firm Foster + Partners.

Located at 1451 S. Olive Ave., the Norton Museum was founded in 1941 by Ralph Norton.
