Over 300,000 square feet of retail proposed in Palm Beach County site

The site of the shuttered A.G. Holley State Hospital could be redeveloped as a shopping center with a residential community built in its second phase, according to an application submitted by a developer.

The Town of Lantana received a proposal by Kenco Communities and Southern Legacy Investments to build 300,400 square feet of retail space at the site on the northwest corner of Lantana Road and 8th Street. It paid $15 million to the state in 2014 for the 80-acre former tuberculosis facility.

The main shopping plaza would total 261,700 square feet, with spaces ranging from 6,000 square feet to 55,000 square feet. There would also be seven out parcels, or those closer to the street, totaling 38,700 square feet that would front Lantana Road.

Behind the retail, the second phase of the project calls for 1,091 residential units.

The project is called Water Tower Commons.
