Riviera Country Club to undergo $8 million renovation

Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables will launch construction to renovate its golf course next week.

The $8 million renovation will include the addition of a 2-acre lake, a half-acre lake, rebuilt greens up to U.S. Golf Association specifications and replanted fairways that will be changed to enhance games on the course. Once the eight-month renovation is complete, the course will also have tee boxes elevated by 15 to 18 feet.

Golfers can still play on the course until mid-April. Construction begins April 13 and is expected to be completed by the end of September. The course will reopen in December, once its new Celebration Bermuda grass has grown.

“This project will be the first major renovation to the course since 1993,” said Eric von Hofen, Riviera Country Club’s director of agronomy and clubhouse maintenance, in a news release.

Kipp Schulties Golf Design, a Jupiter-based golf services firm, designed the modernized course. The country club is also working with Lithia-based QGS Development to renovate the course.

Riviera Country Club opened in 1945.
